Development and characterization of innovative carbon-based waste ashes/epoxy composites

In this study, carbon based ashes were produced by the wooden biomass pyro-gasification plant CMD ECO20. ECO20 is a micro-scale combined heat and power system powered with biomass, under development Italian company Costruzioni Motori Diesel (C.M.D) S.p.A. It an integrated combining downdraft gasifier, spark ignition internal combustion engine, electric generator syngas cleaning devices, it able to produce thermal up 20 kWe 40 kWth. Three different types of fillers from starting innovative green waste: first type (MA) was obtained mortar milling, while second (DBA) third (WBA) one dry wet ball respectively. MA, DBA e WBA characterized several techniques including Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Multi-angle light scattering (MALS) Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) Spectrometry. Each filler added epoxy resin EC01 in amount equal 1, 3, 5 10 wt%. The curing agent (22phr) that cured for 1 h at 60 °C 2 150 °C.
